First Extraction Guide — Mistfall Hunter

Your first successful extraction matters more than your first kill. Mistfall Hunter is live as of July 29, 2026 at 6:00 PM PT (01:00 UTC July 30), and launch-week queues are full of Gyldhunters learning the same loop you are. This page is the day-one route: complete The Way Out tutorial quest on Hallowgrove, secure a Soul of Return, extract cleanly, and bank loot in Windrest before you chase rare drops or PvP highlights.

Watch the embedded launch guide above for pricing, Game Pass, and unlock context, then follow the steps below in your first three runs.

What success looks like on run one

Run one wins when you:

  1. Queue into Hallowgrove from the docks with a clear deploy inventory.
  2. Loot lightly — any Gyldenblod or grey gear is enough.
  3. Locate a Return Chime, defeat the Returner Woodling, and claim Soul of Return.
  4. Ring the bell at the Soul Tree, channel the portal, and return to Windrest alive.
  5. Move everything from your deploy bag into the warehouse stash before re-queueing.

You do not need a boss kill, a full inventory, or a duel win. You need proof that the extract loop works. Death still risks your carried haul — see Getting Started for inventory rules.

The Way Out quest — step by step

The Way Out is the early tutorial chain that forces a real Hallowgrove extract. Community quest guides and beta players describe this flow:

StepActionDetail
1Clear deploy restrictionsBank restricted items at camp so the boat allows matchmaking.
2Queue HallowgroveUse the docks preparation screen; travel light.
3Survive opening minutesLoot safe containers near your spawn without sprint-chasing every fight.
4Wait for Return ChimeAfter several minutes, a blue chime icon appears on the mini-map at a randomized tree location.
5Follow audio cuesWaypoint doors and audible chiming lead to the marked tree.
6Interact with Return ChimeSummons the Returner Woodling with a time window to kill it.
7Defeat WoodlingDrops Soul of Return; on Hallowgrove the corpse becomes a Soul Tree.
8Ring bell and extractRing the bell, summon the portal, channel without re-looting, return to lobby.

Simply entering Hallowgrove does not complete the quest — you must extract successfully back to camp. Full Woodling details: Returner Woodling. Portal defense: How to Extract.

Minute-by-minute first-run timeline

Use this conservative pacing until extracts feel routine:

Minutes 0–3: Spawn at map edge. Listen for footsteps. Open nearest safe containers without sprinting into center-map traffic.

Minutes 3–8: Practice one stance on your chosen class — Mercenary sword and shield is the safest launch pick per Best Beginner Class. Avoid third-party fights.

Minutes 8–12: Set an extract threshold. If you already have worthwhile Gyldenblod or a rare piece, start scouting for chime audio instead of greed looting.

Minutes 12+: Clear space around the chime tree, kill the Woodling, ring immediately, channel the portal. No hero plays after Soul of Return drops.

Alternative early exit: some maps offer Soul Tree windows in the first minutes — see Soul Tree if your squad wants a fast bank before Woodling traffic spikes.

Class pick for your first three runs

Launch balance after DevNote #7 shifted several classes. For learning only:

PriorityClassWhy for run one
1MercenaryShield blocks teach spacing; DevNote #7 buffed shield PvE damage.
2Withered KnightLaunch buffs to parry window and hitboxes; still steeper than Mercenary.
3SorcererTop damage but low forgiveness — only if you already kite well in action games.

Avoid maining Shadowstrix or Seer until you have three clean extracts. Use the Class Picker if undecided.

Extraction channel checklist

After Soul of Return is in your inventory:

  • Do not open nearby chests.
  • Do not chase stragglers for one more kill.
  • Assign a squad member to watch flanks if in trio — Multiplayer.
  • Channel the portal; use CC or smoke only if interrupted.
  • Back in Windrest, stash everything before your next drop.

Soul Trees expire — see Soul Tree. Waiting too long after the bell spawn wastes your ticket home.

Timing tactics launch players report

Community launch guides note extract timing patterns:

  • Early round: Fewer campers at chime trees while squads scatter.
  • Mid round: Highest Woodling traffic — griefers hide near spawn zones.
  • Late round: Desperate extracts attract third parties; still viable if you have peel.

If someone else starts extracting near you, sometimes waiting thirty seconds reveals whether a griefer is camping — or cover an ally and extract together. Never assume good faith in the Gyldenmist.

After your first banked extract

Once the loop clicks:

  1. Claim Open Beta mail cosmetics on the same account — Codes.
  2. Log in daily toward the free Slumbering Contract Battle Pass — Battle Pass.
  3. Read Maps before pushing Brandrgarde CataclysmCataclysm.
  4. Revisit Tier List when you pick a long-term main.
  5. Bookmark Patch Notes for hotfix weeks.

Your first extraction teaches the only score that matters in Mistfall Hunter: leaving the mist with loot safely in the warehouse.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers hunters ask before every run.

How do I complete The Way Out quest?

Queue Hallowgrove from the docks, locate a Return Chime after several minutes, defeat the Returner Woodling, ring the Soul Tree bell, and extract successfully back to Windrest camp.

What is the best class for my first extraction?

Mercenary with sword and shield is the most forgiving launch pick. Withered Knight is strong after DevNote #7 buffs but has a steeper learning curve.

Where does the Return Chime appear?

On Hallowgrove the blue chime icon spawns at a randomized tree location after several minutes in-match. Follow waypoint markers and audible chiming.

Do I need rare loot on my first run?

No. Any successful extract that banks Gyldenblod or gear in the warehouse proves the loop. Greed before Soul of Return is the most common first-run failure.

Can I extract without killing the Woodling?

On some maps Soul Tree or Soul Ferry paths exist, but The Way Out and standard Hallowgrove flow require defeating the Woodling at the Return Chime.

What should I do immediately after extracting?

Move all deploy inventory into the warehouse stash at Windrest, then claim beta mail rewards and start Battle Pass login progress before re-queueing.
