The Withered Knight — also referenced in marketing as a claymore-style specialist — is Mistfall Hunter’s skill-heavy melee Gyldhunter. Core loop: marks and breaks

Withered Knight builds center on applying a mark through chained hits, then breaking it for a power spike. Loadouts should maximize windows where you maintain pressure without whiffing slow swings — whiffs punish harder here than on sword-and-shield Mercenary.

Plan engagements around:

1. Open with safe pokes that start mark stacks without overcommitting.
2. Break marks during stagger windows — Woodling phases, elite Corroded, or pinned Gyldhunters.
3. Spend buff duration on extract defense or disengage before buffs expire in open lanes.

Dual-mode greatsword gear still offers major and minor stance profiles. Treat minor stance as your reset tool when mark chains break rather than as a separate damage rotation you force every fight.

Talent priorities

Invest talents that improve mark application speed, break payoff, parry or counter windows, and recovery after whiffs.

Avoid generic bruiser nodes that assume Mercenary-level HP — Withered Knight wins through tempo, not face-tanking portal channels.

Solo versus trio

Solo: Conservative routes with mark-disciplined fights — pick one target, break, loot fast, extract. Withered Knight solo is viable for experienced players but unforgiving during third parties. Use the Extraction Checklist religiously.

Trio: Duelist or off-tank who breaks marks while Mercenary holds primary peel. Coordinate with Seer heals during long greatsword channels on portal pads.

Call breaks verbally — allies who knock enemies out of your combo range waste your tempo.

Stash and Gyldenblood pacing

Greatsword upgrades are expensive. Bank two viable greatswords — one safety roll with stagger resistance gems, one greed roll for Woodling phases — before pushing high-tier POIs. Gyldenblood spending on warehouse beats marginal affix gambling early.
